About the Institute

 

- The beginning of the Higher Institute of Ancient Near Eastern Studies goes back to the date of 1988/1989, it's a postgraduate institute at Zagazig University and Located in the city of Zagazig – Capital of Sharqia Governorate – about 70m. north Cairo, in the eastern part of Delta Egypt.

- According to the Institute council proposal, Zagazig University will grant the following degrees in the field of Ancient Near Eastern Civilizations.

1- Master degree (M.A.)

2- Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

- To obtain M.A., the students must attend lectures for two academic years, During the third year, they must conduct a master research (thesis) under supervision of one or two professors.

- To obtain Ph.D., the students must conduct a Ph.D., research for at least two years under the supervision of one or two professors.

- It accepts students whom obtained a university degree in the field of History, Archaeology, Oriental Languages, Greco-Roman Studies.

- Exams are held twice a year in May and September, the student has

the right to enter not more than two chances of the exams in a

year. If he fails in one course he has to conduct the exam in whole

courses in the second change .

History of the Institute

The Higher Institute of Ancient Near Eastern Civilizations began it's academic Studies 1988/1989 according to the ministerial decision No. (891) in 21/8/1988 with three departments:

  1. Mesopotamia and Iran.
  2. Arabian Peninsula.
  3. Syrian and Anatolia.

The Fourth one was add according to the ministerial decision No. (975) in 6/9/1989:
